Gabby is an Unrestricted Free Agent so right now we don’t know if she’ll be back next season. I think the Storm want to bring her back but there’s also issues with her commitment to overseas play and the prioritization clause.
Gabby has specifically said she didn’t enjoy running the point. But I do agree that it’s possible that could change. It may be an option the Storm look at A) If they do bring Gabby back and B) The team is unable to sign or draft a legit point guard in the off-season.
I think the team’s Plan A will be to try and sign Courtney Vandersloot. Especially with Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray both signing mid-season extensions with Las Vegas this year.
If their Plan A doesn’t work, that’s where things could get more complicated.
I think you're dead on. She is absolutely the x-factor. Defensively she's nearly AC level, and I don't say that lightly. On offense, she doesn't have the outside shot threat Alysha Clark gave them, but her ability to see the seam and get to the hoop as well as her ability to run the floor seemingly tirelessly is exactly the kind of energy they needed. She is especially gifted at getting the steal, or seeing the steal coming, to keep their transition "defense feeds offense" at an elite level.
Wow! That was an amazing game from start to finish. I loved Gabby's energy and ability to make big plays. 7 assists was impressive. She's starting to show a real take-charge attitude which is great. Gabby has a very quick first step which helps her slash to the basket. I can't help but think that Gabby could be an excellent PG for us and may be the heir-apparent to our wonderful, lovable great Sue Bird. She had previously played some PG for Chicago apparently and didn't like it, but she's come a long ways since those days. She may now be ready to take on that level of responsibility. What do you guys think? I'd love to see that happen!
Good thoughts about Gabby. I’ve been part of several conversations about who our point guard will be next year and Gabby’s name does come up, along with Jewell's. I’d hate to miss what they currently offer but there are not a lot of names to consider. Of the unavailable point guards my first choice would be Chelsea Gray. I don’t know if Storm management has someone in mind but I do think it’s a big quandary.
Very exciting to watch this game! Great in-depth comments on Ezi and Gabby, and also your statement that we have enough talent to win the championship. Go Storm!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on my comments above re: Gabby @WNBAStormChaser!
