You know there are problems with the interior defense when coach Katie Smith tells the TV audience at halftime that the Storm doesn’t defend the paint very well. She did not lie.
Last night, the Storm seemed to really feel Horston’s absence defensively. They really struggle to defend long athletic wings, in general, and Diamond Miller is really, really good. Excited to see her in person tomorrow, and whether the Storm will have any better answers for her or for Collier.
I agree with you re: Joyner getting minutes. I feel like Cedes has definitely improved these last few games, but Joyner has shown more (overall) hustle IMO. I would love to see her sharing quality minutes with Ezi and a healthy Jordy.
Cija - you're the one I met in the elevator the other day at the Storm game right? If so, it was great to meet you! If Joyner continues to play well, I'm sure the coaches will find minutes for her no matter what. She's been doing a good job of rebounding which is so important for this team.
This is totally off-topic, but I wasn't sure where else to broach the subject. I was wondering if you have - or would be willing to - host a mailbox to field general questions/issues pertaining to the W. I often have questions about arcane minutiae around contracts, transactions, personnel, and other administrative issues, with no good place to ask. Also, of course, are more on-court topics that aren't necessarily bound to a specific game story, but might be worth exploring anyway.
I believe Substack has a chat ability. Where I could do a Q&A with fans. I did a couple maybe 2-3 weeks ago. One was pretty active with questions but the 2nd one I did, I'm not sure I got a single question. I know The Athletic occasionally does a Q&A hour with their beat writers for their subscribers. I could do something similar through Substack. I may not have all the answers for questions about contracts, etc. but I'll do my best to help answer questions.
I remember (and participated in) the chat following the Las Vegas debacle, and subscribe to The Athletic, so I'm familiar with that model. Chats are great, but also a lot of work, I'd think. I was thinking more like what Seattle Times does, where the writers (Divish, mainly) collect questions that get answered once a week, or so. However you decide to it (or not), I'd welcome anything you could answer - or query the people you have access to. Keep up the great work - it's much appreciated!
