Great job. Love reading your recap. I gotta say, the biggest problem right now is how the bench isn't producing. And along with that, we have GOT to fight fire with fire. It is clear that pulling the starters off at the end of each quarter and leaving them off for the start of the others is just not working. Teams expect to have bench players out there and know if they can maximize their outputs THEN, THEY can pull it away from the starters. Without Sami and Alysha and Natasha, our then bench Mercedes, Ezi and Steph are now barely holding on as starters. We don't have the depth anymore to rest the big 3+. I'm hoping Coach Quinn can see that and try a different tack.
Love this comment and feedback Kait! It sure seemed like Curt Miller knew when to take advantage in the game yesterday. Both at the end of the 2nd quarter when Connecticut finished the first half on a 14-2 run and the end of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. The coach, the players, and everyone on the team can’t allow a 25-6 run to happen.
As you mentioned, Coach Quinn might need to figure out how to play Stewie and Sue with some bench players and Jewell and Ezi with the reserves at a different time. This team might not have enough depth to compete with the elite teams of the league this year.
Tomorrow’s game will be fascinating. I mean, I’m fascinated in all the games. But the Atlanta Dream have been way better than I would have ever expected. But I’ve also noticed they’re beating up on the bad teams and still losing to top teams like Vegas and DC. If they beat up the Storm on Tuesday that could be a damning statement for where this Storm team is truly at compared to the rest of the league.
Yes! Tomorrow will say a lot. One, it'll be a good look at true post covid for Sue and Ezi. And it should give us an idea about whether coach Quinn can move away from what has occasionally worked, but is clearly suspect now. Also, I really want to see what they're going to do with defense when it comes to Rhyne Howard. Not to mention Coach Wright is an old Storm player, so defense could be tricky when we're up against the knowledge she has. I really want Sue to get another championship but they've got to make some changes if that's going to be possible.
