With the way the rules have been set, the Storm seems pretty unlikely to lose anyone off the current roster. Pickings will be very slim in this expansion draft, which shapes up to look mainly like a rummage sale. It will be interesting, though, to see how many teams use it as an opportunity to try to offload burdensome contracts. Thanks, Jeff, for the most cogent explanation I've seen, thus far.

A great analysis, except having just gotten around to reading this today, I see where Gabby quit the league. I’ll look forward to your new analysis!

Hi D ... I can't find any credible source about Gabby Williams quitting the WNBA. I did a quick search. The only thing I could find was someone on YouTube took her comments during her Exit Interview about how the WNBA can be better for foreign players and then turned that into a story that she was quitting the WNBA and it was because of Caitlin Clark. Basically a bunch of BS. If you have a more credible source, feel free to share it here.

Otherwise, I think it was just someone posting speculation for clicks or Youtube views. I think with someone like Gabby, she isn't going to bend over backwards to play in the WNBA. If the WNBA makes it impossible for her to play due to Prioritization then she will just play overseas. But from everything I've seen and even spoken with Gabby, she loves the Seattle Storm organization. She loves playing with the group. And she's had the most success in Seattle compared to when she was in Chicago (speaking just WNBA success).

I expect Gabby Williams to be back but there is always a chance things change and she goes to another team. I don't believe she's quit the WNBA entirely.

I think you’re right. I read an article that someone put in front of me. But when I later googled it, to find credible sources, it was in things like The Daily Mail, or India Times, etc. I shoulda checked first and commented later. I sure hope you’re right. Sorry, for being such a sucker!

I hope we don’t lost her to the expansion draft.

Gabby's talent is worth protecting in the expansion draft. Even if it meant, they protected her and she ultimately decided to go to a different WNBA team as an Unrestricted Free Agent.

With Nika Mühl's horrible ACL injury. I do wonder if that changes anything with the Storm on who they protect or if it would make them reconsider protecting Nika. I still think the most likely six players they protect are Jewell, Skylar, Ezi, Jordan, Gabby, and Nika.
