The Unlocked series concludes with the final three games of the pre-Olympics’ schedule. The Seattle Storm improved to 16-5 at this point in the season after going 2-1 in these three games. Seattle finished the first portion of the season with the best record in the WNBA. However, both the Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun are hot on their heels. They also qualified for the Commissioner’s Cup money game on August 12th where they will face the Connecticut Sun for a chance to win a prize pool of $500,000. This game will not count against either team’s record.
The Storm defeated the LA Sparks in a defensive battle grinding out a 71-62 victory over Los Angeles.
Seattle then stumbled in their first meeting against the Phoenix Mercury. The Storm were without Stephanie Talbot and Ezi Magbegor who were requested to leave the team in advance to go prepare for the Australian national team prior to the Olympic games beginning.
They had no answer for Brittney Griner (29 points, 15 rebounds) and Skylar Diggins-Smith (26 points, 6 assists) as the Mercury defeated the Storm 85-77.
The Storm would bounce back as they were able to defeat Phoenix 82-75 when the two teams matched up in Seattle. Epiphanny Prince led a balanced attack with 15 points and the team held both Griner and Diggins-Smith to under 20 points each.
