Sue Bird Retirement Press Conference

One last hurrah for the Seattle sports legend.

This morning, legendary point guard Sue Bird made things official. She announced that she would be retiring at the conclusion of the 2022 WNBA season.

I’ve decided this will be my final year. I have loved every single minute, and still do, so gonna play my last year, just like this little girl played her first ☺️ #TheFinalYear @seattlestorm

While it is sad news to read it also isn’t 100% unexpected as Bird had previously admitted she had seriously considered retirement after the 2021 season and that this would most likely be her final year. She has now confirmed that decision prior to playing road games against the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty. Bird grew up in the state of New York and wanted all her friends and family to have an opportunity to see her play one last time. And of course, she played her college years at the University of Connecticut.
