Seattle Storm cruise to 8th win in a row
(Bradenton, FL) - The Seattle Storm won again on Sunday with another dominant victory over the Connecticut Sun 95-72. The Sun were actually one of the hottest teams in the WNBA winners of four of the previous five games entering Sunday’s contest. However, they were no match for Seattle’s up-tempo offense or incredible depth.
Breanna Stewart led five Storm players in double figures with 19 points. She also had five rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.
“It’s ridiculous how good Breanna Stewart is.” ~ ESPN commentator Ryan Ruocco
Natasha Howard had her best game of the season with a season-high 12 points and 11 rebounds. She looked more like her 2019 self where she won the WNBA’s Defensive Player of the Year award. Howard had active hands throughout this game and ended up with three steals and two blocked shots.
Jewell Loyd continued her strong overall play scoring 11 points and dishing out a team-high five assists.
Sue Bird, recovering from her knee injury, did not shoot the ball particularly well early in the game staring 1-5 on FG shooting. But as great players do, she kept shooting and the shots began to fall. Bird finished with 13 points including shooting 50% from beyond the arc (3-6).
Sami Whitcomb was the 5th player to score more than ten. She had 14 points off the bench including going 80% from three-point range (4-5). This included a miraculous 41 footer at the buzzer to end the third quarter. Whitcomb has truly been the best we’ve ever seen. When she gets her minutes, she’s contributing in a big way. Whitcomb is averaging a career-best 9.9 PPG and shooting nearly 51% from the floor and 49% from three.
